Weekly Song: ‘The Great Wild Beyond’

Weekly Song: ‘The Great Wild Beyond’

Having grown up in San Diego, my love for music was deeply influenced by the local music scene. From The Rugburns to The Dragons, I have a strong connection to the music that shaped my childhood. However, one artist that stands out in my memories of local music is Gregory Page.

One of my earliest memories is of my mom singing snippets of “Cyrus” from Page’s debut album “The Romantic Adventures of Harry” as we drove around in her Saturn. As I started playing music myself, I was enchanted by Page’s new Parisian folk style. His music has always had a genuine depth to it, foreshadowing the rise of indie-folk artists like Jason Mraz.

Even today, Page’s soothing voice continues to resonate with me. One of my favorite tracks by him is “The Great Wild Beyond” from his debut album, a beautiful example of his songwriting talent. It’s a heartfelt and intimate song that captures the essence of folk music at its best.

If you like what you hear, don’t miss the chance to see Gregory Page live at All Things Music on Saturday, Sept. 7.

If you have a “Song of the Week” suggestion by a local artist, feel free to shoot us an email with a brief explanation of why you’re loving that song.
